The formula
Worked example
At ₹999 with 12% GST the price without GST is ₹892. With a ₹450 cost, 10% referral fee (₹99.90), ₹25 closing fee, ₹55 shipping fee, ₹30 ads and a 10% return rate at ₹80 (₹8), the profit is about ₹224 per unit. That is 25.1% of the sale price without GST, and the break-even selling price is about ₹716.
Understanding your result
The break-even price shows how far you can cut the price before you lose money. If the GST on fees cannot be claimed, the profit drops by about ₹32 in this example. The chart shows where each rupee goes.
When to use it
- Decide whether a product is worth listing.
- Check your profit before running a discount.
- Compare the effect of ads and returns on margin.
Assumptions and limits
Costs of storage, packaging, taxes on profit and overheads are not included unless you add them to the product cost. Marketplace fees, GST rules and tax rates change and differ by category. The values pre-filled here are samples only. Replace them with the figures from your own rate card and settlement report.
