How to use this calculator

  1. Write each subject as marks obtained, maximum marks.
  2. Put each subject on its own line.
  3. Read the overall percentage at the top.
  4. Check the best and weakest subject below.

The formula

Percentage = Sum of marks obtained ÷ Sum of maximum marks × 100. Subject percentage = Marks ÷ Maximum × 100.

Worked example

78 + 85 + 66 + 45 + 92 = 366 marks out of 450. The percentage is 366 ÷ 450 × 100 = 81.33%. The best subject is the last one at 92% and the weakest is the third at 66%.

Understanding your result

Totals use marks, not an average of percentages, so a subject with higher maximum marks counts more. "Line 3" in the result means the third line of your list.

When to use it

  • Find your board or semester percentage.
  • See which subject needs improvement.
  • Compare results across terms.

Assumptions and limits

Class bands are the common ones and may differ in your institution. Grace marks and best-of-five rules are not applied.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my percentage from marks?

Add all marks obtained, add all maximum marks, divide and multiply by 100.

Does this apply best-of-five?

No. Remove the subject you want to exclude from the list.

What class is 81%?

81% is commonly a distinction (75% and above) in India.

Can I enter decimals?

Yes, for example 72.5, 100.
