The formula
Worked example
From 14 February 2024 to 2 November 2026 is 2 years, 8 months and 19 days, which is 992 days.
Understanding your result
If you enter the later date first, the calculator swaps them and tells you. Including the end date adds one day, which suits things like hotel nights versus days of leave.
When to use it
- Count days to or since an event.
- Work out notice periods, leave and contract lengths.
- Find the gap between two project dates.
Assumptions and limits
Dates are calendar dates without time zones or times. Weekends and holidays are not excluded here.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The calculator does this and handles leap years.
Should I include the end date?
Include it when both the first and the last day count, such as days of leave. Exclude it for nights or elapsed time.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. 29 February is counted in leap years.
What if my dates are in reverse order?
The calculator swaps them automatically so the result is never negative.
Can it exclude weekends?
Not in this tool. It counts all calendar days.
